Recently Aaron and I had an opportunity to speak with Jeff Parks over at Radio Johnny, Johnny Holland Magazine‘s excellent interaction design podcast. We had a lot of fun discussing why web analytics is a valuable tool for UX designers and information architects and referenced several great presentations and resources that had impacts on our own work. You can find these and you can also subscribe to the Radio Johnny podcast for even more excellent discussion on issues effecting the interaction design community and practice here.
Check us out on ‘Radio Johnny’!

Lynne,
It was an absolute pleasure having both you and Aaron on Radio Johnny! I applaud all of the experiences shared, in particular this notion that these are tools that can greatly assist the UX professional in their work. The key is to understand why you are using any analytic solution…
“I think looking at analytics strategically, in the same way that we do UX is important … unless you ask those big questions up front and define what the goals are, it’s going to be very difficult to pick the appropriate tools.”
…and at the same time those within the UX discipline should dive in and allow the data to help guide the iterative design process.
Looking forward to more great discussions here — thanks again to you and Aaron for generously sharing both your time and experiences with the UX community.
Thanks again, Jeff. We had fun and are hoping that hearing some of our experiences was helpful to others. Excited to hear more from the community on this–I’ve already had some excellent suggestions and submissions for this blog. Cheers!
